Hello! I am Suzie Johanson. I have over twenty years experience working directly with a diverse range of businesses, design agencies and publishers. My tools are colour, image, type and pattern and my media are paper, screen and fabric. I have established relationships with photographers, illustrators, web developers, copywriters, editors and printers who help me to deliver a professional design service. studiojohanson is the place where my work, personal projects and collaborations come together.
My work spans projects completed in the following areas:
BRAND IDENTITY DESIGN
I enjoy creating corporate identities and logos and applying them to a variety of branded media to create an appropriate design solution. I always ask potential clients lots of questions about their business, their ambitions for the future, their marketing goals, what their products and services offer and who their customers are – it is good to get to know a client to really understand what it is that makes their business tick. This analysis helps to define and agree the brief and ultimately create an appropriate solution that will look great and work across all media. At the point where an identity and the brand elements are established, brand guidelines can be written to document how to manage the consistent use of all the brand elements in the future.
CORPORATE LITERATURE, BUSINESS STATIONERY AND MARKETING COLLATERAL
Designing and overseeing the production of marketing materials and business stationery that will be useful, affordable and effective for my clients makes up the bulk of of the work going through my studio. The range of media includes online and offline adverts, promotional brochures, e-newsletters, web banners, pdf templates and/or printed business stationery, posters, signs, badges, t-shirts, post-it notes, etc..
Whether for a new product or to enclose a beautiful corporate brochure - the options are endless! I have designed boxes and labels for a variety of products.
Surface pattern design has always been a part of my graphic design toolkit - a detail on a label, a border pattern in a brochure, or an endpaper design in a book for example. Recently, I have been designing patterns as a personal project. This led to a collaboration with an upholsterer to create and print a range of fabric designs for a set of bespoke mid-century cocktail chairs.
My publishing experience spans many years and includes creating cover and spread designs for a large number of reference, craft and cookery titles. I can create designs and styling ideas from a brief synopsis, Art Direct photoshoots and oversee projects through the design and production phase to print.
My website design service includes creating bespoke or template sites that fit with the client's business and marketing requirements. Brand elements and consideration of sales and marketing criteria are considered and blogging and social media objectives taken into account. Depending on the size of the site, I may partner with expert business and systems analysts to understand complex functional issues and business imperatives and partner with copywriters and developers to bring the best range of skills and tools to the web project as required.
I would love to hear from you if you have a project to discuss.
